I just came in from my morning walk.
My devotions led me to this.
I have a fancy new watch.
It is really a computer that I wear on my wrist.
If I live with it 20 years I will never figure out all its bells and whistles
I won’t need 98% of the things it can do.
It has one really helpful feature though.
If I sit around too long it reminds me to get up and get with it.
Sitting around is an essential part of life and I need it like you do.
I also enjoy it.
But it isn’t healthy and it isn’t productive to just sit.
I am trying to figure out how to set the watch to warn me when I’ve preached too long.
Or I could just look up at the body language, and the nodding heads, of the people.
Something is giving me a reminder right now.
The people of faith can get really comfortable sitting.
Cushioned pews, climate control, and ambient lighting will do that for you.
Some of this is necessary of course.
Even life giving.
It can’t be the norm.
We have to GO!
Otherwise our Body will become flaccid and helpless and unhealthy.
A well toned Church is our calling and our joy and the watch we wear in our hearts is sounding the alert.
We won’t use all its features in 10,000 lifetimes but the feature we need most and that is most useful to us, is right there and pulsing away.
As our Friend and I were enjoying a brisk walk under a clear sky and a bright moon we were talking about the day of rest and how good it was. He smiled at me the way he does and said…
“Now walk the walk.”
