I just came in from my morning walk.
My devotions led me to this.
It’s just a feeling.
But I feel pretty secure in passing it along.
Since most of us (I hope and pray) are wearing masks in public now we are seeing each other in a different way.
No lip reading for the time being.
Who knew how dependent we were on that?!
Also no clear facial expression to decipher.
I never was very good at that anyway.
Probably should never have tried.
Humans are way to complex to determine an attitude or an intention from facial expression.
There is quite likely something way deeper going on that we know or imagine.
So now we are looking into each other’s eyes.
We look deeper.
We concentrate just a little bit harder.
Maybe we are primed to be with one another on a different level than we have been.
Perhaps looking deeper will explain some of the fear that motivates folks to the silliness that surrounds us.
Perhaps looking deeper will help us see a beauty that we have always poetically proclaimed to be “more than skin deep.”
Perhaps looking deeper will help us find that inner truth that the prophets told us is there and that bonds us in love which is our only real obligation.
And our only real hope.
It sort of puts wearing a mask in a different light doesn’t it?
As our Friend and I were walking a private walk we were in a deep discussion about this whole looking into one another’s eyes thing. It was just the two of us and he has immunity so I didn’t have on my mask. He smiled at me the way he does and said…
“With me you can drop the masks you wore before you wore the masks.”
I am including a meme today that is infinitely more than a meme. I hope you will internalize it. Then externalize it. Then share it very literally everywhere you go with everyone you meet. God bless John Lewis.
