I just came in from my morning walk.
My devotions led me to this.
I find this whole social media thing very useful. And very disturbing.
The useful comes in sharing inspiration, and information, and beauty.
The disturbing comes in impersonal harshness, constant criticisms, and rushing to judgment and condemnation and alienation and polarization.
So as I chatted with our friend Jesus this morning we decided an insurrection is in order. We made a commitment to form a conspiracy. (Conspire means, literally, breathe together.)
We will need some courageous souls with expertise in rewiring to alter the troubling tendencies.
We will need some folks who speak new languages to change the conversation. Sort of like Pentecost.
We will need some software engineers to remove the hearts of stone and replace them with something more tender.
We will need a support staff that will inspire us when the going gets tough.
The recreation department will help us play and have fun.
The inspector general staff will gently nudge us when our lesser selves threaten to surface.
The walk with Jesus got a little overwhelming. It was clearly a call, even a demand, to aim higher.
I asked, for the umpteenth time, if this is doable.
He just smiled.
I asked, where are the people who will do this?
He said -
