I just came in from my morning walk.
My devotions led me to this.
Yesterday the Cutie was on childcare duty for a couple of grandchildren. Rest time came around.
The six years old always insists that he doesn’t need a nap.
If you approach this wrong you will get a struggle.
So the Cutie diplomatically convinces him to “just relax” for a while.
In seconds he is out like a light.
Sometimes for hours.
The people who love you are finding a way to get you to do what you need to do for your life to prosper - in the things that matter.
There may be times and seasons where this comes through a confrontation.
But not many.
Instead those lovely friends of yours are opening doors and giving encouragement and offering support and sharing options.
This morning I give thanks for those people in my life.
Some of us can sometimes be as cranky as an exhausted six years old.
It isn’t uncommon for that crankiness to evaporate as we get to the place where we “just relax”, having been guided by someone who loves us and keeps us close.
For me that place is “near to the heart of God.”
You know what I mean?
As our Friend walked with me in the muggy predawn we were chatting about how what we resist is quite often the path to our peace. He chuckled with me the way he does and said…
“That kid really rips and roars after he gets a nap.”
