I just came in from my morning walk.
My devotions led me to this.
Strip down, start running—and never quit! No extra spiritual fat, no parasitic sins. Hebrews 12:2 The Message
The old translations read something like “let us throw off any hindrance and the sin that so easily entangles us and run with perseverance the race that is before us.”
Have you ever noticed what the top runners wear?
Not much. Every stitch is considered for its impact on their performance. Think about being clothed in Christ.
Have you read about the diets they eat?
Every calorie has a purpose. Their food either feeds their conditioning or it detracts from it. Think about your Daily Bread.
Have you marveled at the training regimen they follow?
It is clear that they are dedicated to the race. Well, you are reading this so something here must interest you.
This morning we are toeing the starting line.
We are a bit edgy as the adrenaline courses through us. There is a tension in our bodies and a focus in our eyes that is special. There is a spirit in us that is straining forward.
We have shed the spiritual distractions. We have learned that love overcomes a multitude of sins. It even cleanses the parasitic pride and the idolatrous judgments and the regrets that kept us sloppy in our conditioning. We have honed our hearts to a razor tenderness. We have revved our joy to the red line of excitement. We are ready to aim higher.
And now we are toeing the starting line.
And we are the ones who fire the starting gun for ourselves.
